About us…

Doug and Michelle Kavan are the founders of Kavan Capital, based in Placerville, California. Our real estate journey began with long-term rentals, where we built a strong foundation in acquisition, operations, and asset management. As our experience grew, we made the intentional decision to sell those properties and redeploy our capital into short-term rentals — a shift that introduced us to what truly inspires our work today: hospitality.

Through managing our own vacation properties, we discovered a passion for creating thoughtful guest experiences, operating with care and attention to detail, and building spaces where people can rest, reconnect, and enjoy meaningful time away.

Our professional backgrounds complement this vision. Doug brings more than 30 years of construction experience, including two decades as a superintendent for a large residential builder, overseeing complex projects from planning through completion. Michelle’s background in education brings strong operational systems, communication, and guest experience management. Together, we actively manage our portfolio and operations. We are also both licensed real estate agents in California.

Today, our focus is on thoughtfully scaling into boutique hotels and hospitality-driven properties. Our goal is to acquire and reposition a boutique hotel as the next step in growing our portfolio — building a business grounded in disciplined investing, operational excellence, and a long-term commitment to stewardship.
